I have found changing Hyundai Elantra headlights to be one of the easiest replacements. And if you are struggling with it, don’t feel bad! I’ve been there.
Here I’ll explain the process of replacing a Hyundai Elantra headlight in the shortest way possible. So, let’s get started!
I was able to easily replace my Elantra’s headlights with these tools:
- Ratchet wrench; I used the Channellock one.
- Metric socket; Dewalt’s set is the cheapest with quality.
- Screwdriver (optional)
Step 1: Get your car ready
It’s important to park your car and turn it off. Letting it cool down first will make the process easier and less risky. Open the hood of your vehicle and make sure it’s cool enough for you to start the replacing process.
Step 2: Start removing the bolts
You’ll be able to differentiate the headlight assembly from the other parts under the hood. On top of each headlight, you will find three bolts. Two bolts on the front are 10mm, while the one at the end is 12mm. Use your tools to get them detached carefully.
Step 3: Disconnect the wirings
Find the electrical wires connected to the headlights from the car’s engine. You will find a plug. By pressing that plug, you can easily pull the wirings from the headlight and fully detach the assembly from the vehicle!
Step 4: Remove the headlight
Pull the headlight assembly upwards once everything (bolts and wires) is detached. Be careful during this process, as you do not want your bumper to be scratched.
Step 5: Install the new headlight assembly
Put the new headlight in the place of the old one. Screw the bolts in with your tools. However, ensure the bolts are not too tight as they can damage the car or the headlight. Lastly, reattach the wirings to their right spot, and you are done!

What is the best headlight pair for Hyundai Elantra?
After trying out four different pairs of headlights on my 2006 Elantra, I found the Evan-Fischer pair to be the best option for me. I love the black background, which made my old car look much better than it used to. Moreover, the installation is easy with a proper fit.
It can cost you nearly $100 and more for the labor when you change your Hyundai Elantra’s headlights from a professional. This is the reason why I wanted to do the replacement on my own. And as you can see, it’s easy and cheap to do it at home!
